Goldendoodle or Goldenpoo

December 18th, 2010

I have always referred to Rusty as a Goldendoodle.  The name Goldendoole comes from combining “Golden Retriever” and “Poodle.”  For the first time the other day I heard the term Goldenpoo.  I was thinking in my head, Goldenpoo, what’s that.  I laughed when I learned that Goldenpoo is another name for Goldendoodle.  I think Goldendoodle has a little nicer ring to it, rather than referring to your pet as a Goldenpoo.

Golden Retriever + Poodle =  Goldendoodle or Goldenpoo

Now when your searching for a Goldendoodle puppies forsale make sure to include Goldenpoo puppies forsale.

Blue Buffalo ” Blue Mini Bars”

November 7th, 2010

We recently discovered Blue Buffalo’s, Blue Mini Bars.  We have been using Blue Buffalo Health Bars for a while now as treats for Rusty.  The Hearth Bars are about three times larger than the Mini Bars.  We have been breaking the Health Bars in half to make the bag last longer but no need to break the mini bars.   We now stock our selves with both giving Rusty a little more variety when it comes to his treats.

Prevention Medicine Yearly Cost

November 2nd, 2010

What is the yearly cost of prevention medicine for your Goldendoodle?

As many of you know owning a pet is not cheap.  We took Rusty to Petsmart Banfield today for his yearly heartworm checkup and we left with a year supply of prevention medicine.

Year supply of Heartgard – Heartworm prevention

Year supply of Comfortis – Flea prevention

Yearly heartworm check

Total Spent – $320.00

Overall not an outrageous cost for a year supply.

Heartgard – Heartworm Prevention

November 1st, 2010

We give Rusty Heartgard medicine to prevent heartworm disease.   I learned today that the manufacture requires that your pet get a yearly check for heartworms in order for you to buy the prevention ( Heartgard ) .    This is a nice yearly reminder to get your Goldendoodle check.  We buy a year supply and when the package is out we know it is time for his yearly checkup.

It is always better to be proactive rather than reactive.

Spoiled Goldendoodle

October 20th, 2010

Once you teach a dog a new trick they do not forget.  For a little over a year we have not allowed Rusty up on our chaise lounge.  As time has passed we have become more and more relaxed and invited Rusty to sit on the lounge with us while watching TV.  He quickly learned that it is now OK for him to get on the chair and it has become his new napping station.

Below you will find a picture of a very spoiled Goldendoodle.

Drug Sniffing Goldendoodle?

October 9th, 2010

I have recently watched several programs about drug sniffing dogs and the desired characteristics.  From what I have seen Rusty has all the desired genetic characteristics needed for a good drug sniffing dog.  It is important that the dog love a toy, once they are lock onto the toy that is all they can think about.   They also need to have the desire to hunt and find the toy, not easily giving up.

Rusty loves his ball.  He will hunt the backyard until he finds it.  Yesterday I tried an experiment.  I hid his ball in the living room without him watching then asked him to “find it,”  and every time he came back with his ball.      I think Rusty would make a great drug sniffing dog with the proper training, but he is our family dog, not a drug sniffing dog.

Has anyone seen or heard of a Goldendoodle becoming a drug sniffing dog.  I know they train Goldendoodles to become seeing eye dogs and other companion dogs but I have yet to see a Goldendoodle drug sniffer.

Goldendoodle Outside

June 13th, 2010

Picture of Rusty the Goldendoodle with his new haircut, tick collar (the tan collar) and beloved tennis ball.

With the warm weather here it was time for Rusty to get his summer haircut.  For the summer we are also trying a new tick prevention, the tick collar.  The collar is designed to prevent the ticks from bitting rather then killing the ticks once they have already attached themselves to a host (Rusty).

Banfield The Pet Hospital

May 19th, 2010

Over the past several months we have grown very unhappy with our current Vet.  Rusty (Goldendoodle) had a rash on his nose and when we took him to our local vet we felt like they were trying to make the money rather than cure his rash.  After Rusty’s rash was cured we decided it was time to rethink our vet choice.  A friend recommended Banfield and  explained that they were very happy with the care they received.

We took Rusty to Banfield last week for the first time, he was due for his bordetella shot.  So far we are very happy with how we were treated.  They have a complementary first time visit were they do an overall  pet exam and to check the dogs health.  The staff there was friendly and supportive.  We also received a follow up call the next day to check on Rusty.

Goldendoodle Dog Shoes

April 24th, 2010

We have owned a set of dog shoes for about a year and never used them until this week.  We were at the local lake and I was playing fetch with Rusty on the concrete launch ramp.  I stopped after a short time to look at his paws, it was then I noticed that his paws were starting to bleed.  It was time to try out the dog shoes.  It was a funny site to see.  Rusty looked like a goof ball trying to run with the dog shoes on.  He never tried to take them off and after a little while he got the hang of it.

We have always and will continue to  carry the dog shoes on long hikes and trips just in case he injures his paws.
