Goldendoodle Picture Before his Haircut this week.

June 29th, 2011

Rusty (Goldendoodle)  is getting a haircut in a few days so I figured I would snap a few shots before he gets his summer cut.

He was very tired after a long walk-

Goldendoodle Hike

June 22nd, 2011

We took Rusty hiking the other day, (Picture Here) and he had a blast.  It was only a few miles and he walked in heel the entire time.  He walked between us and only broke heel to go potty.  It has been awhile since we walked with Rusty in heal, but he had no trouble and enjoyed every minute of it.  After our short hike we let Rusty run free as I snapped a few pictures of him running towards me.

We make an effort to take Rusty to hike or play at least once a week to expose him to different environments.  The other days Rusty gets his exercise  by walking the neighborhood or playing fetch in the backyard.

Funny Goldendoodle Picture from Christmas

December 26th, 2010

I am always amazed by a dogs sense of smell.  Rusty was able to sniff out his gift while we were making dinner and unwrap it with no assistance.

Goldendoodle New Toy Picture

December 23rd, 2010

Rusty got an early gift.  The toy lasted about 20 minutes before Rusty ripped into the rope and got the ball out.   Rusty loves his tennis balls!

Goldendoodle or Goldenpoo

December 18th, 2010

I have always referred to Rusty as a Goldendoodle.  The name Goldendoole comes from combining “Golden Retriever” and “Poodle.”  For the first time the other day I heard the term Goldenpoo.  I was thinking in my head, Goldenpoo, what’s that.  I laughed when I learned that Goldenpoo is another name for Goldendoodle.  I think Goldendoodle has a little nicer ring to it, rather than referring to your pet as a Goldenpoo.

Golden Retriever + Poodle =  Goldendoodle or Goldenpoo

Now when your searching for a Goldendoodle puppies forsale make sure to include Goldenpoo puppies forsale.

Blue Buffalo ” Blue Mini Bars”

November 7th, 2010

We recently discovered Blue Buffalo’s, Blue Mini Bars.  We have been using Blue Buffalo Health Bars for a while now as treats for Rusty.  The Hearth Bars are about three times larger than the Mini Bars.  We have been breaking the Health Bars in half to make the bag last longer but no need to break the mini bars.   We now stock our selves with both giving Rusty a little more variety when it comes to his treats.

Prevention Medicine Yearly Cost

November 2nd, 2010

What is the yearly cost of prevention medicine for your Goldendoodle?

As many of you know owning a pet is not cheap.  We took Rusty to Petsmart Banfield today for his yearly heartworm checkup and we left with a year supply of prevention medicine.

Year supply of Heartgard – Heartworm prevention

Year supply of Comfortis – Flea prevention

Yearly heartworm check

Total Spent – $320.00

Overall not an outrageous cost for a year supply.

Heartgard – Heartworm Prevention

November 1st, 2010

We give Rusty Heartgard medicine to prevent heartworm disease.   I learned today that the manufacture requires that your pet get a yearly check for heartworms in order for you to buy the prevention ( Heartgard ) .    This is a nice yearly reminder to get your Goldendoodle check.  We buy a year supply and when the package is out we know it is time for his yearly checkup.

It is always better to be proactive rather than reactive.

There is more to fetch than you think.

October 27th, 2010

Many people teach their dog how to fetch.  Many people do not teach their dog everything that goes along with fetch.  It is important that you have control over your Goldendoodle while playing fetch.  Dogs can get tunnel vision, only focusing on the object they are fetching.   There are several things you can teach your dog to make sure you remain in control of the situation.

Things you can do to stay in control while playing fetch -

1. Sitting –  Have your Goldendoodle sit when he returns the ball to you.

2. Waiting for the “OK” – Give the “stay” command before throwing the ball.  Wait several seconds after throwing the ball before you give the “OK” command, allowing the dog to retrieve the ball.   This takes time and practice.  Slowly increase the time you have the dog wait to retrieve the ball.

3.  Stopping the Action – When your Goldendoodle is chasing the ball give the “stop / heal”  command.  Your Goldendoodle should stop chasing the ball and come and sit at your feet.

All three steps take time and practice.  Remember to practice in a controlled environment, ensuring you are not setting your pet up for failure.  Slowly introduce more challenges and distractions.   These simple steps can save your pets life one day.  It is important to have control of every situation.
